Phoenix bracesChristmas and Hanukkah are just around the corner! Everyone is hustling around for the holidays, shopping and wrapping and have holiday programs to attend or practice for. . . and baking galore! There’s not an extra second in anyone’s schedule it seems. Since we're all so busy that we don't want to have to think, I just wanted to throw out a few morsels of caution to all our friends in braces. Please exercise caution when considering all the tempting treats floating around during this time of year. Remember to avoid all the sticky gooey candy like: taffy, caramel, gummy bears, and bubble gum. Also watch out for the hard stuff too, like: peanut brittle, hard candies, nuts, lifesavers, jolly ranchers and candy canes. (Even though you try to only suck on them & not bite, eventually it seems like most of us do. AND it’s not good to have all that sugar in your mouth for a long period of time.) Be especially wary of popcorn balls & caramel apples, they’ll get you every time—haha! Now, all of you Invisalign and Clear Correct patients. . . . You can get away with eating about anything, but be careful not to overdo it. I must warn you, constant “grazing” of the beautifully displayed goodies can cost you wear time. (And we all know how precious that wear time is!) Not to mention, you need to remember to brush or rinse your mouth out thoroughly before reseating your trays. Sorry if I’ve properly squashed half the fun of the holidays (eating!). I might suggest you to treat yourself (and others) in a different way. Perhaps a spa day, or football game, or arcade afternoon can take the place of munching down on all those forbidden goodies. But there’s still plenty of holiday treats you can partake of, such as: soft sugar cookies, gingerbread men, fudge, almond bark (carefully), fruit cake?, divinity. . . you get the idea!
